Pentecost Sunday

May 24, 2026    Pastor Dan Thurber

This powerful message takes us to the heart of Pentecost Sunday, exploring the transformative gift of the Holy Spirit that remains available to every believer today. We're reminded that what happened in that upper room over 2,000 years ago wasn't a one-time event locked in history, but rather the beginning of an ongoing relationship with the third person of the Trinity. The scripture from Acts 2 comes alive as we see how 120 ordinary people were transformed into bold witnesses who turned the world upside down. What's particularly striking is the parallel drawn between two types of water Jesus speaks about - the well that springs up to eternal life at salvation, and the rivers of living water that flow out of us when we're filled with the Holy Spirit. This isn't just about speaking in tongues as evidence, but about a fundamental shift in how we live, love, and serve. The message challenges us to move beyond waiting and striving in our own strength, and instead to yield our will to God's will. When we truly surrender - leaving our plans and agendas at the altar - we position ourselves to receive the empowerment we desperately need to be effective witnesses in our spheres of influence. The call is clear: Pentecost isn't meant to be celebrated once a year, but lived daily as we continually humble ourselves and allow the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth.
