Understanding Sin Nature Part II

Feb 1, 2026    Pastor Kevin Lawson

This powerful message takes us on a journey through the nature of sin, from its conception to its redemption. Drawing from James 1:13-15, we discover that temptation doesn't come from God but from our own desires that entice us. The teaching walks us through five crucial stages: understanding how sin is conceived in our hearts, recognizing that all have sinned (Romans 3:23), experiencing the conviction of the Holy Spirit (John 16:8-9), confessing our sins with the promise of forgiveness (1 John 1:9), and finally, true repentance. What makes this exploration particularly compelling is the distinction between worldly sorrow and godly sorrow found in 2 Corinthians 7:10. Worldly sorrow is merely regret at being caught, while godly sorrow leads to genuine transformation. We're challenged to move beyond playing games with our sin—justifying it, moderating it, or hiding it—and instead to hate what separates us from God with such intensity that we cut it off completely. The message reminds us that God removes our sins as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12), never to hold them against us again. The call is clear: if we want to see revival in our lives and communities, it begins with aggressive honesty about our weaknesses, genuine repentance, and a determination to walk away from the things that hold us back from intimacy with Christ.
