The Bread of Life

Pastor Kevin Lawson

John 6:35

"Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty."

Are you following Jesus for the miracles or for the Messiah?

In John 6, Jesus fed 5,000 people with just a few fish and loaves. Amazing, right? But when the crowds followed Him to the other side of the lake, He had to redirect their focus three times. They weren't seeking Him because He was the Son of God—they just wanted more free food.

Jesus told them: "Don't work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life."

Here's the truth we all need to hear: You can't eat bread on Sunday and expect not to starve the other six days of the week.

Coming to church once a week, experiencing great worship, hearing God's Word—that's beautiful. But if you're not spending time in prayer, opening your Bible, drawing close to Him during the week, you'll find yourself spiritually starving.

He's not offering temporary fixes or material blessings. He's offering eternal fulfillment. The void you feel? The emptiness that success, money, and achievements can't fill? Only Jesus can satisfy that hunger.

Peter got it right when he asked, "Lord, to whom shall we go?" Where else can we find what truly satisfies?

This week, redirect your focus. Stop chasing temporary things and pursue the eternal. Make time for your daily bread—time with Jesus.
